The project, located at the site of the childhood home of the Walcott brothers, is expected to bring new life to the community.
A sod turning ceremony for the construction of the Walcott Heritage Site will take place this weekend.
The project will include a museum and an arts theatre in honor of the achievements of the Walcott family and their contributions to the Saint Lucian identity.
Director of the Saint Lucia National Trust, Bishnu Tulsie, said the Walcott Heritage Site, the childhood home of the Walcott brothers, will bring new life to the community.
“We expect this project to transform this part of Castries,” he said. “It will be an addition to the visitor experience, it will be a place where local artistes can practice and perform, and will also serve as a catalyst for the regeneration of the lower Chaussee area and an urban renewal experience.
“The lower Chaussee Road area will be transformed into a center for the arts and will encourage related types of business activities, and a lot of benefits for school children who are interested in the arts. The population as a whole will benefit as well, because it will be a place where they can go to experience the work of the Walcott brothers and other local and international playwrights.”
The Walcott Place Project will be funded by the Government of Saint Lucia and the Republic of China on Taiwan.
The ceremony will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday.
