Spencer was met by Prime Minister Chastanet and Olympic Committee President Sen. Hon. Fortuna Belrose.

Saint Lucia’s three time Olympian, Levern Spencer, arrived home to a rousing welcome on Sep. 15.

After achieving sixth place within the high jump during this year’s Olympic Games held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Ms. Spencer was welcomed on arrival at Hewanorra International Airport by not only friends and family but also by Prime Minister Hon. Allen Chastanet, Olympic Committee President Senator, Hon. Fortuna Belrose, and other government officials.

On addressing those present at the occasion, the Olympic Committee President complimented the young athlete on her professionalism and character.

“Levern embodies what we want every young Saint Lucian to have, she makes your life easy on tour. It’s easy to manage Levern because Levern is a disciplined young person who is committed to excellence and ensuring that she achieves the best that she can every time she steps out to represent Saint Lucia. This is what we value in our citizens and this is what we want every Saint Lucian to do, to continue to give their best every time they go off. Levern epitomises that and that is what we celebrate every time we come around.”

Prime Minister Chastanet stated that her achievements for this year were highly commendable.

“I thought it was very important as Prime Minister to Saint Lucia to be here to greet Levern because I think that Levern has symbolised for a very long time, what it takes to succeed. Its discipline, its hard work, its perseverance and the real recognition is not that she just achieved sixth place in the Olympics but it’s the year that she’s had. She has consistently been in the top three of all the events that she has done and for me that is an incredible achievement.”

Ms. Spencer’s official homecoming was the first in a catalogue of national activities centred on the athlete.
